CARGO SHIP FIRE, CASPIAN SEA

General cargo ship TURKESTAN suffered fire in engine room on Feb 8 in Caspian sea, while en route from Baku to Aktau. Funnel insulation cover was the source of the fire, according to Master’ report. Fire was extinguished by sealing off engine room and activating CO2 firefighting system, but the ship was disabled. Tug responded, the ship was towed back to Baku, she’s to undergo repairs.
