Disabled tanker towed to port, Portugal
Product tanker AMAZONITH suffered engine failure and started to drift in the morning Jan 22, while approaching Aveiro Port, Portugal, in stormy weather conditions. The ship tried to anchor, but failed, while tugs couldn’t approach her and take in towlines, because of rough seas. Finally, the ship managed to enter entrance channel and more calm waters, finding shelter behind northern jetty, so the tugs were able to tow her to port. Not clear if she managed to enter channel under own power, or it was a lucky drift. Understood while navigating or drifting in channel, tanker’s bow contacted jett, suffering some dents. Tanker was ballasting to Aveiro from Morocco.
