Bulk carrier AMAL-T collided with oncoming cargo ship (unidentified) while entering Qinzhou Port, South China, Gulf of Tonkin, in the evening Jan 4. Bulk carrier loaded with 27,465 tons of manganese ore was severely damaged, sustaining hull breach in portside cargo hold area, followed by water ingress. The ship was in danger of sinking and blocking fairway. MRCC deployed tugs and salvors to prevent major accident, understood ship was intentionally grounded. Later she was partially offloaded to get access to breach. Breach was patched, the ship was taken to port and berthed on Jan 12.
